RED FLASHED BULRUSHES
A gorgeous example of art glass created using two-layer 'flashed' glass, custom etched with artwork. This panel features intense red, blue and amber flashed glass made by St. Just in France. NEARLY WRIGHT
Incorporating geometric elements from a selection of familiar Frank Lloyd Wright compositions, this original Glass Studio design uses a much broader range of art glass than found in the work of the famous architect. Mouth-blown antiques, 'herringbone' hand-cast art glass and architectural pattern glass are juxtaposed with subtle colourless textural glass for a visually stimulating result. JAZZ
In the spirit of improvisation, Thomas Smylie composed each of the fused glass panels in this door individually. As each section was completed it was put away - out of sight - so the next panel would be a spontaneous composition - similar but different from the previous panel. Made with precision ground fusing glass sections and glass threads called 'stringers', each of the ten glass section is kiln-fired to fuse the pieces together. GELGOOT
One of the studio's first showroom display windows, this piece references late 1800's - early 1900's design, with custom-made bevels contrasting with a traditional 'glue-chip' background. BOUQUETS
Individually fused glass compositions made with thin flakes of coloured glass known as 'confetti' combined with glass threads called 'stringers'. THE DANCERS
This wonderfully animated abstract was created for display at The Glass Studio's Britain Street studio as an example of our kiln-fired, painted glass. The line-work and shading details were accomplished using traditional glass paints, applied both by brush, sponge and rag, then permanently fused into the glass by firing. Mouth-blown and machine-made cathedral glass is used for texture and colour. Framed in gray-painted steel angle. The frame OD is 42-1/2" wide x 28" high. CHEVRONS
This window is made with copper electroplated 'Colonial' zinc came, similar to the profile used in many of Frank Lloyd Wright's windows. The panel is made with glue-chip, ripple and granite textures and a subtle white opal accents. Framed in pine sash. The frame OD is 43-3/4" wide x 20-3/4" high. The art glass panel itself is 41" wide x 17-3/4" high.

RED FLASHED BIRDS
'Flashed' glass is a centuries-old type of two-layer, mouth-blown glass which was very popular in the late 1800's because it's perfect for subtle etching and artwork. The Glass Studio made extensive use of flashed glass for its custom windows to work authentically in the Victorian style. This charming transom window is a perfect example, with a hand-made, 'birds & branches' centre etched into a circle of Lamberts red-on-clear flashed glass. It also has four mouth-blown rondels, distinctive cast jewels and vibrant opal colours. Ripple and English 'muffle' glass are used for the borders and backgrounds. Signed "The Glass Studio 2018".
